Mala

background
Mala beads are traditionally used in prayer and meditation and are believed to embody peace and love. The necklaces and bracelets in the Mala collective are unique because they feature gemstones that are believed to offer different healing qualities. For example, turquoise increases love and destroys hatred, and lava provides strength and clarity. The jewelry is handmade in Bali using rudraksha beads.  Rudraksha beads are actually seeds that come from berries that resemble blueberries which grow on trees in Southeast Asia. Rudraksha beads contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and are said to have the following health benefits:  heal the mind and body ailments, reduce heart disease and lower blood pressure, increase clarity and general awareness, calm the central nervous system, help quiet the mind, and free negative thought. They are also cool against the skin which increases energy and stamina.

All of the employees in the production stage benefit from profit sharing of world wide sales. Mala Collective also donate part of their profits to high priests in Bali, as well organizations in Vancouver like Karma Teachers, who offer yoga to homeless people living on Vancouver’s Downtown East Side.
